Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons (7 g) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Filling

  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 ounces (115 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups (180 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Let stand for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll the dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
  6. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together, then sprinkle evenly over the butter.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 equal rolls.
  8. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to make a smooth frosting.
  12. Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.

Tips

  • Use warm milk between 105–110°F (40–43°C) for the best yeast activity.
  • Do not overbake to keep the rolls soft and fluffy.
  • Frost while the rolls are still slightly warm for the creamiest finish.

Storage

Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Reheat individual rolls for 15–20 seconds in the microwave before serving.
