Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
  • 2¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it stand for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Add the egg, melted butter, and activated yeast mixture to the flour.
  4. Mix until a rough dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. A stand mixer with a dough hook can be used for about 5 minutes.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 60–90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it according to your desired recipe.

Ways to Use This Dough

Pizza

Roll out the dough, add your favorite toppings, and bake at 475°F (245°C) for 12–15 minutes.

Cinnamon Rolls

Spread with butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Roll tightly, slice, let rise for 30 minutes, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes.
